For New Year's Eve, Wayland and I went camping with friends at Port St. Joe National Park. It was so beautiful and I was able to take tons of pictures. The weather was great and we had a great time.

Long time no blogging

Well, since the last time I blogged I have moved back to Cedar Key and gotten a job working at a bank. That's why I haven't had a lot of time to focus on my art (unfortunately!!). I have finally gotten some extra time to update all of this stuff and while attempting to update my website, I discovered that it is down. It has something to do with mobile me and icloud and I haven't been able to deal with that yet. However, here is some of my most recent stuff. Some of it was done in October and November but mostly it is from December.

Recently I changed the look of my blog. It was a complete accident that happened with the push of a button. Blogger has some new templates and when I thought I was previewing, I was actually applying to my blog. So...I have several hours of work ahead of me because I want to customize everything. I'm not too upset because I wanted to change it anyway.

Florence + the Machine just released their new single "What the water gave me" and I LOVE this song. Originally I was going to use the lyrics for a music poster and then after listening to the song over and over, I definitely got a reference to Ophelia from Shakespeare's Hamlet. So after looking at some artistic representations of Ophelia and with the help of a photograph from my friend Christian Harkness, I created this piece.

Just finished another music poster. I love this song and saw The Avett Brothers in concert a while ago and they put on a fantastic show! They are amazing musicians and these lyrics really stuck with me.

Lately I have been working on music lyric posters and have a few going but they are still works in progress. When I hear a song sometimes the lyrics really stick with me and I get a visual of some sort from the song, so I thought I would try to make some visual expressions of the lyrics. Hopefully I will have some done for you to see soon!!

My friend Chris Harkness sent me this cool website with photos of people in their homes working or doing art, which I thought was really cool and thought it was a great idea. I was a inspired a bit by this and sort of by accident took a "Selby-ish" photo of myself. I really want to get together with Polly and/or Chris and try to get some photos like this, so we'll see. This is a new logo for my friend Polly. She is doing some photography on the side and wanted a logo, so I was glad to help. I think it turned out great and she loves it too! She takes great pictures and has fun with it too. Here is the logo and a picture of her not very happy at the moment daughter. Sadie was sick all week and obviously didn't want her picture taken. As Polly said, it's been one of THOSE days. Although she's crying, it's still so cute.

Fight for Florida's Future Festival

I recently designed the program for the Fight for Florida's Future Festival held in Orlando. It was a quick timeline, but I think it turned out great and they were very pleased with it as well. Lots of text to work with but I got it all on there. It is a 4 fold brochure-like program:

Gradient Map & still working on the butterfly

Practicing with gradient maps. They can be really cool and/or crazy if you want. I am going for a colorful, yet faded look. Still playing around with it though. It's fun!! :)
Also added some cool vector circles to add more texture.

I am also still working with that Asian Butterfly, I just can't get it to work!!! The latest version is below.

I realize all I did was move the butterfly and remove some of the branch, but it took me a while to do that!!! Sometimes pieces just don't come together very easily.

Work in Progress

This is a work in progress that I am kind of struggling with. I know where I want the direction of the piece to go, but I don't feel it is "finished". I work a little bit more on it every day and try to get it to the point where I feel it's done. I also posted some images of my inspiration for this piece.

The Magic of Photoshop

I decided to take a picture of myself with no makeup and then "fix" it in photoshop. It's amazing what you can do. I could have even put makeup on but I'm still learning and when I tried to do it, it didn't look right, so I left it off. I look pretty rough in the first one. But this is a great example of how all the gorgeous women in magazines look so good :)

I found this cool effect on a blog by a guy named John Wayne. It is funky and kind of grungy and can be so versatile. You could really do so many things with this project. In the instructions they give you the link for the brushes and easily download them. Here is the link:

This is what I did with it and am going to try some other projects using different photos.
